Wakkanai (稚内市; -shi) is a city located in Soya, Hokkaido. It is the northernmost city in Japan.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 42,686 and the density of 56.11 persons per km². As of 2000, the total area is 760.80 km².
The city was founded on April 1, 1949.
