Trump
From Wacklepedia - The Free Encyclopedia
Trump was a glossy magazine of satire and erotic humor, mostly in the forms of comic-strip features and short stories. It was edited by Harvey Kurtzman and published by
Hugh Hefner, with only two issues produced in
1957. As those credits imply, Trump was a cross between
Playboy and the early
MAD Magazine. Its symbol was the Playboy Rabbit posing as a trumpeter or herald in the style of
Alice in Wonderland.
In
card games,
trumps frequently figure in trick-taking games such as
bridge,
euchre, and
hearts.
Trumps are cards which rank above non-trump cards, and which automatically prevail over them unless a higher trump is played. In most such games, trump cards cannot be played if the player can follow suit to the card led in the trick; in a few, trumps can be played at any time. The "Major Arcana" of the Tarot cards were originally used as a permanent suit of trumps in the game of tarocchi or tarock.
