Three-age system

The three-age system is a system of classifying human prehistory into three consecutive time periods, named after the characteristic tool-making technology of the era:

It was introduced by the Dane Christian J?gensen Thomsen in the 1820s in order to classify artifacts in the collection which later became the Danish National Museum for History.
