Scold's Bridle

A Scold's Bridle was a torture device resembling an iron muzzle or cage for the head. It was used to punish "scolds" -- women whose speech was "riotous" or "troublesome" -- by preventing them from opening their mouths. There are no records of the device ever being used on men.
