The Stadtverband Saarbr?ken is equivalent to a Kreis (district) and located in the south of the Saarland, Germany. Neighboring districts are Saarlouis, Neunkirchen, Saar-Pfalz, and the french departement Moselle.

History

The district Saarbr?ken was originally created in 1816. In 1974 the district and the district-free city Saarbr?ken were merged, and the was named Stadtverband Saarbr?ken. Although it's not a district like others, most of its administrative tasks are same as those of a district.

Geography

The Saar River flows throught the district, through the city Saarbr?ken in the center of the district.

Coat of arms

The original district had no coat of arms, the Stadtverband uses a coat derived from the one of the Counts of Nassau-Saarbr?ken. The silver lion is taken from the County of Saarbr?ken, the golden lion is the lion of Nassau.
