Rochefort is a city of western
France, a
seaport on the
Atlantic Ocean. It is a
sous-pr?ecture of the
Charente-Maritime d?artement.
Its military harbour has been fortified by Vauban.
The town has gained some fame with Jacque Demy's movie Les demoiselles de Rochefort.
Rochefort was the birthplace of Pierre Loti. His house has been turned into a museum.
