In the United States, primaries are one stage in the presidential nomination process, see U.S. presidential primary.

Primary is a 1960 documentary film. It covers the 1960 primary election between John F. Kennedy and Hubert H. Humphrey for the United States Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States.

It was directed by Robert Drew, Richard Leacock, Albert Maysles Terrence McCartney Filgate and D.A. Pennebaker. Primary, along with Chronicle of a Summer, was largely responsible for the start of the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
