Maumoon Abdul Gayoom

Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been the president of the Republic of Maldives since November 11, 1978, having succeeded Ibrahim Nasir. and was last re-elected to a five-year term in 1998. He was the sole candidate, having been chosen by the Majlis or Assembly. He was born in 1937.
