Karaganda

Karaganda (or Qaraghandy) is the capital of the
oblysy (
oblast) of the same name in
Kazakhstan. Its population is about 437,000 (1999).
It was the birthplace of Akhmad Kadyrov, the current president of the Chechen Republic
