Jimmy Chamberlin

Jimmy Chamberlin (born
June 10,
1964) was the drummer of the
rock band
Smashing Pumpkins. He was born in
Joliet, Illinois. He joined the Smashing Pumpkins in
1988, when the then trio was still using a drum machine. During the tour for the
1996 album
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Chamberlin and keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin overdosed on
heroin, Melvoin later dying. Chamberlin was kicked out of the band and replaced for a time by Matt Walker, before the group returned to using drum machines.
After three years, Chamberlin was re-admitted into the Smashing Pumpkins in 1999, but the band broke up in 2000. With the Pumpkins' singer/guitarist Billy Corgan, Chamberlin went on to form Zwan in 2002.
