History

There are findings dating back to the bronze age.

Wine growing was important for centuries. This made Herrliberg associated with Z?ich. Since 1815 the municipality is part if the district of Meilen.

The chapel in Wetzwil predates 1370. In 1687 the local parish church was built, this after the first school was established in 1639.

In 1886, the peak of wine growing, Herrliberg counted 174 wine growers, cultivating 127 hectares of wine.

In 1634 there were 516 inhabitants in Herrliberg. In 1900 about 1000 inhabitants were counted, but by 1940 this grew to 2000. In 1960 there were 3200 inhabitants.
