Cypress is a name applied to plants of the gymnosperm tree family, Cupressaceae (Cypress Family). Most plants bearing the common name cypress are in the genera Cupressus, Chamaecyparis, or the hybrid genus x Cupressocyparis . However, several other similar tree species and one unrelated angiosperm vine also include the term:

• Bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) and other Taxodiaceae
• Cypress trees (''Cupressus species)
• Cypress vine (Ipomoea quamoclit)
• False cypress tree (Chamaecyparis sp.)
• Leyland cypress tree (Cupressocyparis leylandii)
